What is Yoga?
Yoga is an Indian method of self-realisation, it's name derived from a Sanskrit word meaning "union". It has been defined as "the control of the activities of the mind". The definition continues," Yoga methods encompass the entire field of our existence, from the physical, emotional and mental to the spiritual. Its methods include ethical disciplines, yoga poses, breath control, as well as meditation."
It is an eight stage process of spiritual development encompassing ethical disciplines, postures and breathing exercises in the physical arena and control of the sense, concentration, meditation and enlightenment in the area of the mind.
Most yoga seen in the west is Hatha yoga which concentrates on the more physical aspects of the discipline to achieve healthiness
Yoga is one of Natural Remedies from Shared Care's teaching therapies together with Alexander Technique, Bowen Technique, Pilates and T'ai Chi.
