What is Stress?
Stress Causes
Stress causes an insidious build up of the various pressures of living until the person's coping mechanisms fail. Highly rated stressors include divorce, relationship problems, pregnancy and childbirth, bereavement, unemployment and serious health issues such as cancer and MS - multiple sclerosis. Drugs used to control stress include beta blockers like atenolol (tenormin) and propranolol (inderal) that have effects on the blood pressure and heart. Tranquillisers such as benzodiazepines like diazepam (valium) and lorazepam (ativan) are addictive and should not be used for more than six weeks.
