What is MS?
MS Symptoms
MS (Multiple Sclerosis) is caused by the loss of the myelin sheaths around the nerve fibres. This loss causes them to transmit the nerve messages incorrectly. This myelin sheath loss is patchy, variable and often progressive, leading to many different patterns of symptoms.
Common initial symptoms of MS are
:-- Visual problems with reduction or loss of colour vision
- Reduction of night vision in one eye
- Weakness of leg or arm especially after exercise or being tired and dizziness
- Concentration problems
- Continence problems
- Mobility Problems
Multiple Sclerosis may have a rapidly progressive course or the sufferer may only have one attack of visual difficulty with most having a course somewhere between.
Also helpful may be our pages for incontinence, phobias, anxiety, carers and stress.

MS Treatment
Medication
Drug treatment is by high dose steroids during attacks and it is said that Amantadine may help the fatigue. Linoleic Acid (found in certain oils) may be helpful.
I have recently looked into what is known as Low Dose Naltrexone, also known as LDN, in order to help a relative of mine who has MS and it seems to be safe and potentially helpful. Opinions vary but it should be widely available. This study is small but shows benefit and the side effects are said to be low. (ed.)
