What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture
Acupuncture and its subspecialties are techniques of stimulation of special acupuncture points on the body which lie on 12 main meridians through which circulate the vital force of the human body (Qi). There are 365 acupoints situated on these meridians at which qi can enter and leave the body and at which it is concentrated. These can be seen on an acupuncture points chart.
The main modalities are acupuncture, acupressure, ear acupuncture (or auricular acupuncture) and Koryo Hand Therapy (also called Koryo Sooji Chim, Korean Hand Acupuncture or Soojichim.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of needles into the body on the meridians at one or more of the acupuncture points to suppress or stimulate the flow of the vital energy.
Acupressure
Acupressure is a technique involving the same points but no needles are used. Pressure of various sorts is used over the points to produce its effects.
Ear Acupuncture
Ear or Auricular Acupuncture is based on the chinese foetus representation where the foetal body is mapped on the ear and the point on the ear that represents the ill part is stimulated either by needles or electrically by an acupunctoscope to relieve the problem.
Koryo Hand Therapy (KHT)
Koryo Hand Therapy(KHT) also called Koryo Sooji Chim, Korean Hand Acupuncture or Soojichim
, somewhat like reflexology maps the human body on to the hand (the foot in reflexology) and ascribes acupuncture points to various areas of the hand. The points may be stimulated by needles, pressure, and various other methods.Acupuncture is one of Natural Remedies from Shared Care's touching therapies together with Biofeedback, Chiropractic, Craniosacral Therapy, Healing Touch, Massage, Osteopathy, Reflexology and Shiatsu. Acupuncture is also one of the modalities of Asian Bodywork Therapy.
